City of Boulder founded in 1859, Boulder is nestled in the foothills, where the rolling plains meet the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Boulder is the most populous city of Boulder County and the 11th most populous city in the state of Colorado. Boulder is located at the base of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 5,430 feet (1,655 m). The city is 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Denver.
The United States Census Bureau reported that in 2010 the population of Boulder was 97,385, population of the Boulder Metropolitan Area 294,567.
Boulder is famous for its colorful Western history, being a choice destination for hippies in the late 1960s, and as home of the main campus of the University of Colorado, the state’s largest university. Furthermore, the city of Boulder frequently acquires top rankings in health, well-being, quality of life, education, and art.
On November 7, 1861, legislation was passed making way for the state university to be located in Boulder, and on September 20, 1875, the first cornerstone was laid for the first building (Old Main Building) on the C.U. campus. The university officially opened on September 5, 1877
Boulder adopted an anti-saloon ordinance in 1907 Statewide prohibition started in Colorado in 1916 and ended with the repeal of national prohibition in 1933.
Rated the “#1 Sports Town in America” by Outside Magazine, Boulder offers countless year-round recreational activities. Take advantage of the 200 miles of public hiking and biking trails, approximately 43,000 acres of open space or the Boulder Creek Path, which runs through the middle of town.
Boulder’s Third Flatiron towers 1,400 feet high, a few hundred feet higher than the Empire State Building, and has been climbed by people without using their hands, on roller skates, naked and in 8 minutes (by separate climbers).

A view from 75th Street and Woodland in north Boulder County Colorado looking west toward the Rocky Mountain foothills with car light trails from Woodland Rd as a lightning thunderstorm does it’s magic in the air. A very active night of lightning. Started shooting to the east across the street with strikes hitting over Terry Lake while watching it hit like crazy along the foothills moving south.
