Pinnacle Peak Surrounded in Black and White
Pinnacle Peak, Arizona, surrounded by lightning bolts. Lightning striking on both sides and above during a monsoon thunderstorm. 25 sec exposure, one strike. This was shot on film back when I used to shoot with bulb and let go after something big happened.
I have seen some of the most amazing lightning strikes up here. North Scottsdale above the valley in elevation of about 2,000 ft. Back in the day this was not even North Scottsdale it just way out in the desert… the boonies.

Lightning Striking Longs Peak Foothills BW
Lightning bolts, cloud to ground striking the front range foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains in Boulder County. A view of the Twin Peaks, Mount Meeker 13,911′ and Longs Peak 14,256′ in the distance. This is the black and white version.
This storm came in fast about 8:30 pm, one thing I have learned about Colorado Lightning storms in the springtime… they come in fast and do not last long. For me as soon as I saw some flashed in the sky, out the door and landed where I could to get a composition view of Longs Peak. As I was set up shooting a farmer showed up to deliver 8 boxes of live bees, he told me hopefully it will all go well. Lucky for me it did. The Lightning was all over in less than twenty minutes.
It moved north but died out. Looking forward to the warmer weather when the lightning in the storm last a little longer. Here are my settings for this Lightning session. ISO 100 – 20sec – f5.6 – 28mm. Hope you enjoy.

Boulder Canyon Drive and Selective Commute
A favorite drive and commute. Colorado’s Boulder Creek and Canyon goes through a significant change in scenery as it moves from top to bottom toward the town of Boulder. Between Nederland’s Barker Reservoir, in the western, and the Boulder town limits in the eastern, the creek moves through Boulder Canyon.
Chapel On The Rock Stary Night Portrait Monotone
A beautiful colorful dreamy night time scenic portrait view of the famous Chapel on The Rock with a stary sky above. Saint Catherine of Siena Chapel, aka “The Chapel on the Rock” with a forest of stars in the night sky. The chapel is located on the grounds of the Saint Malo Retreat Center, the retreat center for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Denver, near Mount Meeker. In 1999, Boulder County designated the chapel as a historic site.Pope John Paul II prayed at the chapel during his visit to Denver for World Youth Day in 1993. Afterwards, the chapel received his personal blessing. The Pope later hiked in the surrounding woods and spent some time at the Saint Malo Retreat Center. Boulder County Colorado, north of Meeker on Peak to Peak Highway.The Saint Malo Retreat Center was destroyed by fire in November 2011, but the chapel was not damaged.
