Bryce Canyon National Park Views

Bryce Canyon National Park Views

Scenic landscape view into Bryce Canyon National Park.  A spectacular place to visit.

Interesting fact: Water, ice, and gravity are the natural forces that formed the geological “hoodoos” that make Bryce Canyon unique.

This park is named after Ebenezer Bryce, who started ranching the area in 1875. Upon showing the canyons to visitors, he is said to have remarked, “It’s a hell of a place to lose a cow.”

Bryce Canyon’s rocks are among the youngest of those on the Colorado Plateau, dating back a mere 65 million years ago to the Cretaceous period.

Cool fact: Most rural parts of the U.S. have 2500 stars visible on any given clear night. At Bryce Canyon, that number jumps to a whopping 7500. Currently, these essential remaining dark night skies are being threatened by mining in the nearby community of Alton. The mining will potentially adversely affect the clear skies. It is a hugely contentious situation.

Geological fact: Bryce Canyon isn’t actually a canyon. It’s actually a natural amphitheater.

Total Area 35,835 acres – Annual Visitation 1,385,352 in 2012 (view all years) – Park Creation Date September 15, 1928 –  Entrance Fee $25 per vehicle per week – Time Zone Mountain – Lowest Elevation 6,620 feet at Yellow Creek – Highest Elevation 9,115 feet at Rainbow Point – Lowest Average Temp 9°F in January – Record Low Temp -26°F in 1963 – Highest Average Temp 78°F in July –  Record High Temp 98°F in 2002

Gods Colorado Garden

Gods Colorado Garden Art Print

Scenic landscape view of God’s Colorado garden. The outstanding geologic features of the park are the ancient sedimentary beds of deep-red, pink, and white sandstones, conglomerates and limestone that were deposited horizontally, but have now been tilted vertically and faulted by the immense mountain building forces caused by the uplift of the Rocky Mountains and the Pikes Peak massif.

Colorado Garden of the Gods Mono Tone View

Colorado Garden of the Gods Mono Tone View Art Print

Garden of the Gods with a black and white sepia mono tone view.  In 1859, gold was discovered in the South Park area of Colorado, and “Pikes Peak or Bust” became a popular slogan as vast numbers of fortune seekers headed west. Boom towns were created overnight; over 100,000 people arrived in the region in just one year! The Pikes Peak area became a funnel of humanity since it sat at the foot of Ute Pass, the only accessible route to South Park. The Pass funneled gold seekers from three major routes across the plains.  Buy Custom prints online of  Colorado Garden of the Gods Mono Tone View

It was August of 1859, when two surveyors started out from Denver City to start formal action in locating a townsite, soon to be called Colorado City. While exploring nearby locations, they came upon a beautiful area of sandstone formations. M. S. Beach, who related this incident, suggested that it would be a “capital place for a beer garden” when the country grew up. His companion, Rufus Cable, a “young and poetic man” exclaimed, “Beer Garden? Why this is a fit place for the Gods to assemble. We will call it the Garden of the Gods.” It has been so called ever since.

Garden of the Gods is a public park located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1971.

The area was first called Red Rock Corral. Then, in August 1859, two surveyors who helped to set up Colorado City explored the site. One of the surveyors, M. S.
