Colorado Rocky Mountain Love

Love the Colorado Rocky Mountains Art Print

Please click on the image for the iGallery

You have to love the Colorado Rocky Mountains with Lake views like this!  One of my most favorite places on earth Brainard Lake, the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, Roosevelt National Forest, Boulder County, Colorado.   You are looking at the continental divide,  I used to camp up here in the middle of winter and cross county ski up to the bowls.  Just me and my dog Jeff.  Great times to remember,  but those days are gone.  You never know though….  the snow shoeing is really good here too.

Medicine Bow Mountain Range Lake Panorama

Medicine Bow Mountain Range Lake Panorama Art

Panorama scenic lake view of the Medicine Bow Mountain Range in Wyoming west of Laramie.  Two and half hour drive from Boulder County, Colorado.  Great day trip.  This is a very large 12 portrait images stitched together fine art panorama print.

The Medicine Bow Mountains are a mountain range in the Rocky Mountains that extend for 100-mile from northern Colorado into southern Wyoming. The northern extent of this range is the sub-range the Snowy Range. From the northern end of Colorado’s Never Summer Mountains, the Medicine Bow mountains extend north from Cameron Pass along the border between Larimer and Jackson counties in Colorado and northward into south central Wyoming. In Wyoming, the range sits west of Laramie, in Albany and Carbon counties to the route of the Union Pacific Railroad and U.S. Interstate 80.

High elevations, peaks and lakes dominate the southern and northern reaches of the range, with lower, forested ridges being the mainstay in between. On the western fringes of the central portion of the range, the North Platte River cuts a deep, narrow, canyon over 20 miles long.  The range features 18 peaks over 11,000 feet and includes 9 over 12,000 feet, with 12,951 ft. Sunset Lake Storm Front Panorama View Art Print

Hanging out lakeside with a camp fire and watching a a fantastic lightning show all across the eastern horizon.  A very bright almost full moon above with an isolated thunderstorm cell all lit up with  lightning striking.  This is a view from Jackson Lake in Morgan County Colorado looking East.  These storms went around us giving us a great side view and show as they went  out in the NE direction right past our location.  Lightning kicked up right after sunset.

Fantastic lightning show all across the eastern horizon.   This is a view from Jackson Lake in Morgan County Colorado looking East.  These thunderstorm cells  went around us giving us a great side view and show as they went out in the NE direction right past our location.  Lightning kicked up right after sunset and went on into the night.  There was a day a way full moon to the right out of frame and stars shinning bright above.  This is a stack image to get the star trails equal to almost a 3 minute exposure.

Rainbow Down

Rainbow Down Art Print

Here is another view and close-up of a rainbow raining down on beautiful Arches National Park in Utah.   There were a lot of photogs out on this Sunday. One guy had a huge L lens shooting all over the place… I had to yell at him to turn around to get this before it was gone.  He did not even see it.   We laughed and he thanked me.   It was fun chasing this rainbow around the park to get diffient views of something incredible happening on the landscape.  Put this place on your bucket list, well worth the fun and journey.

Humans have occupied the region since the last ice age 10,000 years ago. Fremont people and Ancient Pueblo People lived in the area up until about 700 years ago. Spanish missionaries encountered Ute and Paiute tribes in the area when they first came through in 1775, but the first European-Americans to attempt settlement in the area were the Mormon Elk Mountain Mission in 1855, who soon abandoned the area. Ranchers, farmers, and prospectors later settled Moab in the neighboring Riverine Valley in the 1880s. Word of the beauty of the surrounding rock formations spread beyond the settlement as a possible tourist destination.

The Arches area was first brought to the attention of the National Park Service by Frank A. Wadleigh, passenger traffic manager of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. Wadleigh, accompanied by railroad photographer George L. Beam, visited the area in September 1923 at the invitation of Alexander Ringhoffer, a Hungarian-born prospector living in Salt Valley. Ringhoffer had written to the railroad in an effort to interest them in the tourist potential of a scenic area he had discovered the previous year with his two sons and a son-in-law, which he called the “Devil’s Garden” (known today as the “Klondike Bluffs”). Wadleigh was impressed by what Ringhoffer showed him, and suggested to Park Service director Stephen T. Mather that the area be made a national monument.
