A scenic landscape view through a large winter cottonwood tree from McIntosh lake in Longmont, Colorado, Boulder County. Clear blue sky view of the Twin Peaks, Mt Meeker 13,911 ft and Longs Peak 14,256 ft  with geese hanging out on the semi frozen lake.  ( Prints for sale online –  Twin Peaks Blue )  History – The lake was called Dawson after John Dawson (1839-1917) before taking the name McIntosh. Dawson joined the Chicago-Colorado Colony in 1871, and farmed east of Hygiene. In 2003, the City leased the surface rights to the lake with the intention of creating a district park which will link Dawson Park, Flanders Park and Boulder County’s Lohr Open Space.

Flying Canadian Geese with the Colorado Rocky Mountains front range continental divide towering above in the background on a clear blue sky over the Rockies autumn day.  The Canada goose is the most common wild goose in North America. At least 11 subspecies of Canada Goose have been recognized, although only a couple are distinctive. In general, the geese get smaller as you move northward, and darker as you go westward. The four smallest forms are now considered a different species: the Cackling Goose.  The oldest known wild Canada Goose was 30 years 4 months old. Read the rest of this entry
