Camping Under A Colorado Nighttime Milky Way Sky
Last weekend we did a little camping up in the Colorado high country of the rocky mountains where the night sky lights up with the milky way and galaxy above. There was a small pond next to us and lots of wildlife to see. Summertime at it’s best! Of course up here they say they have two seasons… winter…. and the fourth of July!
This was a fun night of shooting and creating fine art photography at one of my favorite hideaway places on the planet. All I am going to say is it is above Boulder at about 8500 feet.
The temperatures were in the high 90’s below and 85 up here. It dropped to down 49 when I was shooting these at about 3:00 am. The things we do to get the shots.

Colorado Anvil Lightning Crawler
Out chasing storms in northeast Colorado and saw some amazing crawlers that looked like they were coming off of a tower going up into the sky. During the dissipation of a severe thunderstorm, many discharges of lightning that never appear to make it to the ground will appear to cling to the base of a cloud. Looking up at the cloud base, an anvil crawler will look like fingers of lightning underneath the clouds.
Watching Stormy Skies From The Farm

There is not a better place to watch a thunderstorm with lightning striking and putting on a show then from the open space of a farm. A very active spring storm striking above this cool red barn out in the agriculture plains north east of Longmont Colorado. The colors in the clouds are from the city lights of Longmont. One of my most favorite places to watch and shoot a storm.

Drive By Lightning Strike
This is the last shot out of this series, and may very well be my last lightning shot of the season. . Again I normally do not shoot with power lines but I wanted to try and make this shot a little more interesting by getting the neon lights of passing cars and power lines in the shot. This was a short lived storm that passed by quickly. I normally do not shoot with power lines but I wanted to try and make this shot a little more interesting by getting the neon lights of passing cars and power lines in the shot. This series might very well be the last new lightning images for the season. This is my 27th year chasing lightning. May or may not stop at 30 🙂
