Watching Stormy Skies From The Farm

There is not a better place to watch a thunderstorm with lightning striking and putting on a show then from the open space of a farm. A very active spring storm striking above this cool red barn out in the agriculture plains north east of Longmont Colorado. The colors in the clouds are from the city lights of Longmont. One of my most favorite places to watch and shoot a storm.

Corner Of A Storm

While out chasing lightning storms, we get to see a lot of rainbows.  As I was shooting a rainbow view to the eastern Colorado horizon,  this was the view behind me looking west to the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

These storms come in quick over the Rocky mountains and head out east and cause all kinds of trouble.  The sun was shinning through on the top of this cloud making for a cool corner of a thunderstorm.

Canyonlands National Park Utah Views

A scenic view into Canyonlands Nations Park in Utah.  This is one amazing place.   Author Edward Abbey, a frequent visitor, described the Canyonlands as “the most weird, wonderful, magical place on earth—there is nothing else like it anywhere

Canyonlands National Park is a U.S. National Park located in southeastern Utah near the town of Moab. It preserves a colorful landscape eroded into countless canyons, mesas, and buttes by the Colorado River, the Green River, and their respective tributaries. Legislation creating the park was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on September 12, 1964

The park is divided into four districts: the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze, and the rivers themselves. While these areas share a primitive desert atmosphere, each retains its own character. Two large river canyons are carved into the Colorado Plateau by the Colorado River and Green River.

Interesting fact: Canyonlands is largely covered by cryptobiotic crust, a living soil, comprised of algae, lichens, and bacteria.

Scientific fact: Cataract Canyon may be one of the world’s most actively filling canyons. Scientists discovered 260 feet of sediment below the water’s surface.

Giant lightning bolt striking next to a wall of rain south of Boulder Colorado towards Golden, heading east to Denver. This is a view Central East Boulder County looking to the southwest towards the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Very active lightning strikes, we were out of the wind and rain north of the storm a great viewing point.
